My career over more than three decades has thrown plenty of tough challenges at me as I gained a reputation for turning ailing companies into profitable businesses.
And in my spare time I took on different kinds of challenges - walking to both North and South Poles and climbing the toughest peaks in the world.
But I wasn’t a rower.
Speaking at an event in Monaco I made an off-the-cuff response to a question from the audience that I quite liked the idea of rowing the Atlantic Ocean. The questioner then made me put my money where my mouth was - and volunteered to join me!
I’m always up for a challenge and grabbed the nettle.
This was the start of the journey from a team of five guys who had never rowed anywhere to a record-breaking endurance rowing team.
